  • Dance Photography – Vision of Forever – Rehearsal

    January 8th, 2011

‘Vision of Forever’ is an Odissi production of the highest caliber exemplifying works of the late Odissi pioneer Guru-Deba Prasad Das. Artistic director Ramli Ibrahim is unapologetic in his forthcoming of the spiritual depth of the complex psyche of India.

I had documented the whole vision of forever dance show from the arrival of the dancers till the end of the show. hence the album will go by 3 sequels , arrival, getting ready and the main show and this is the 1st part of the series.

I know this is like reading an old newspaper for those who are my facebook friends. But I just thought of make some interesting noise over here with some colorful dance photographs as well on my blog besides wedding pictures.

The images are all rights reserved under Vicknes.Ideal.Photography Studio & Sutra Dance Theatre.

Special thanks to Master Ramli Ibrahim, Sutra Dance Theatre and the sutra dancers.

My 2010 and a Thanks Giving!

    December 30th, 2010

Many said that 2010 has been a great year for me because it seems i was more lucky and had became more of a household name in indian wedding photography industry, both locally and international. But i would say its because of the seed that i planted 2 years ago and the nurture of it had brought the fruitful year of 2010. The seed, my passion for photography ; the nurture is the continuous effort on making myself a better photographer in this industry.

Of course my hard work alone doesn’t pay it off to be who am i today, there is an old saying says we need two hands to clap in order to hear noise. But in my case because of the thousands pairs of hands and the claps for my work, i am here today as who i am. Hence my biggest thanks would go to my valued client who eventually became good friends, fellow PoserGraphers who shoot along with me, dearest family and lovely friends (both real and virtual i.e. facebook, twitter and also other social network platform).

    A quick recap of 2010:

    • - The year started pretty well as i got my 1st northern region wedding assignment and it was a blast and then upgraded the gears and some lighting systems followed by my website upgrade from pure blog to a more interactive photography website .
    • - Profile shoot for the international sitar maestro, Samuel J Dass and the photos were the one featured on his latest album, Moments which is available in all the major music stores.
    • - Shot a Conceptual Trash the dress pre-wedding photograph with the 5 elements theme name Panchabootha. It was said that its the 1st Indian trash the dress conceptual photo shoot.
    • - Got hired to shoot my 1st International Conceptual Pre-wedding shoot in Singapore, l’amour la nuit and you may view the work here. This was the shoot where PicVid concept was introduced by V.I.P Studio.
    • - Things got even better when I was hired to have a full coverage of an Indian wedding back in Chennai, India!! I was accompanied by 2 fellow photographers, suren and magen to deliver the best to client.
    • - To wrap up the year with some glory, I was hired all the way to LONDON to have full coverage of the British Indian wedding ceremony including the R.O.M, the Mehndi Night and Ponnurukku (gold melting ceremony) and the Pre-Wedding with the PicVid concept with the London Love story theme and also the Grand Ceylonese Wedding.

I might have missed out some of the achievement / accreditation things that i’ve done for the past years, and to many who may think  its not even a matter to be mention or nothing to be shout about, thanks for thinking such way, you know you’ve been in my place to be the prominent who you are today. Being a photographer, our main nature is to sell our self (literally our work) as I believe if  I don’t make some noise then i’m afraid I wont be heard at all. So why bother being “proud”, when yes I do feel a lil proud from what I’ve got collected by looking back from the past 2 years of my photography career.

Last but not least, Happy new year to all and to wrap up this blog post, I would like to give in some promo for my loyal clients and friends. Please check below poster for further detail.

For further detail, please contact me at +6016-2120104 or fill up the <contact> from www.vickneswaran.com and i shall get back to you at the soonest.

Vijay&Rashmi @ Palace of the Golden Horses

    March 7th, 2010

This is one of my recent wedding reception shoot at the palace of the golden horses featuring Mr Vijay and Ms Rashmi (Mrs Vijay now) :) .

Rashmi and I were friends from flickr since some time back but we don’t really communicate much over there. One fine day, I logged into my flickr and saw her message saying that her fiance might contact me regarding her wedding dinner reception photo shoot. I was a bit over whelmed because I didn’t know that my work had been noticed by someone from overseas. Oh yea, by the way, Rashmi is from Singapore and bro vijay is from here (Malaysia).

I still remember she told me in the message that she is a person with few word and camera shy and least photogenic which i totally disagreed and i bet you guys will too now.

Congratulations to the beautiful couples Mr& Mrs Vijay, now who said we both country people cant get along, hehe. One singapore, Satu Malaysia.

    Baby portrait – Chandini

    January 9th, 2010

You have seen me bragging about my gears, wedding photos, engagement moments being capture and even pet photography. For a change, I’m uploading one of the baby portrait shoot that I had in JB last year. I didn’t had the time to upload it and while doing spring cleaning on my 1TB hard drive which is reaching its quota, i stumbled upon of baby chandini’s photos.

She’s a very jovial baby who can pose for camera and mind you she was not even one year old.

    I am a copy cat

    December 24th, 2009

I am born copy cat. When i was a baby, i was spoon fed; well I was not the 1st person who knows how to eat. When I can stand, mum taught me to walk, and yea, I was not the 1st person who knows how to walk and then run like any other man kind. Later I was taught to speak, read, write and sing (which i suck at it) and all others things just like you. So do you admit that you are a copycat?? I do!!

Why this topic, you may ask? Did some one say I am a copy cat? Well if anyone said that, I will proudly say yes but I will tell them at least i am admitting that I’m one but not living in denial and claiming myself that I am the 1st to do this and I am the best and I always invent something by myself which is totally BULLSH*T!!!! This write up is to share my opinion as a new comer in photography industry, as a “junior” photographer as the “seniors” address us, and as a “copy cat” who the “BAST-the 1st Egyptian cat god” claims.

Some years back, I use to snap my family function using my uncle’s film camera and I was the junior photographer of the family and yea my aunty and uncle was the one who taught me how to snap like them, so I copied their style which is placing the subject right in the middle of the frame and make sure there is some space in between the head and the foot. ROFL :P

Later, I got my 1st point and shoot and quench out every bit of the juice of the camera that I can get but I still find the something is not there in the photos. I cant find the something like other photographers work. See, again I try to copy cat by comparing with other photos. So I thought maybe the camera has limitation and that’s the reason its different output.

Hence, there goes my 1st DLSR, a Canon 400D and I was overjoyed and thinking that, yeay, I’m gonna make the pictures that have that something that I cant get in my point and shoot camera. And I started to shoot and shoot and shooooooot but yet the output, hmmm, not so the something. So I went online, look for other photographers work and compare what is wrong, and I couldn’t find the error. With frustration, I planned to read up more online, e-books even though I hate reading but this passion got me going and reach out all the possible resource to get that something in my photos.

Eureka, I thought I found out what is that something. Its called bokeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh), in layman term, it’s the background blur effect. So now I know what to do, and again I started to shoot shoot and shooooooooooooot but still the something is not really there..more and more shoots, more research, more discussion and all this are done by referring to others or  “copying” others info or idea.

And till today, I am still finding for the something which I doubt I will ever find what that is because that something is something which is different from each photographer. To get that something, we have to use the same thing (method) but with different approach. Then I realize, that everything that I do including making or taking or snapping picture is also an activity of copycat, BUT, the main thing is how we improvise from that and make it looks more original instead of stealing others idea wholly.

Now i believe i am making the something kinda pic myself and stop comparing with other some kind of photographer

Merry X’mas and happy new year.

Happy Copycatting and don’t give 2 dung about others says cause he who calls you a copycat, he is actually speaking to the mirror!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Studio portraiture- Hanusha,the classical dancer

    December 18th, 2009

I was never keen of shooting portraiture using strobes (studio lighting set in layman term) till the day I did it for Hanusha. Brief intro about the model, Miss Hanusha Janendran. She is a blogger, me also blogger, her boyfriend raj kumar also a blogger so we know each other on blog-o-sphere some years back and one fine day I got a job offer in the same company where they are working and ever after that we go yam cha and mamam all together, so we got close. I know i know its a bad introduction, I’m sleepy, so bare with me. :P

To cut is short, she was preparing herself for her classical dance graduation which she’s learning since the age of 4. So for the graduation performance night, she need to prepare some booklets and banner and yea, of course its gonna be her photos in it.

I was honored to shoot her and we decided to do the shoot in NeoStudio with strobes and the back drop which I felt its like so out of my league and I was lil nervous as it’s gonna be something important for her graduation night. She was good in her poses and expression so it made me  comfortable and confident shooting her and experimenting the artificial lights, it was fun though!!! We completed the shoot within an hour and I went back exhausted but excited.

The booklet and the invitation card was designed by rames and it can be downloaded over here . To be honest, I never thought that it would turn out that well, hats off to the designer, rames! I think i’m sleepy now, that’s why writing too much and boring you guys, I better shut it and let the picture speak.
