5 ways to lose your blog reader

I was lil bit busy as you can see my blog was in coma stage since 12 December 2008. I know, I know, its a very bad practice for a blogger to let his blog idle for more than 3 days. Eventually the number of visitors dropped tremendously as well as expected. It’s not that simple to bring in the reader but its easy to lose them, just like what i have done.

So from this experience, i would like to share something about 5 ways to lose your blog reader

#1. Update your blog once a month

Let say you were updating your blog and giving your reader some hot news like this, this and this and the readers were kinda happy with it, hence the expectation will be there that you will give more posting as such. But if u think that you wanna give a try how to lose them coming to your blog, STOP writing for a month. I bet your unique visitors count will drop like hell.

#2.Don’t reply their comments

The comment column in all the blog post has its purpose, make use of it. I always want people to read my blog (even though it sucks) and give some comments. I don’t care if they gonna screw me up, but im happy that i caught their attention. Simple logic, if they caught your attention, they would look for a reply for what they said in your comment section, agree? And to know whether have you replied their comment, they might return in a day or two, eventually it had brought in extra traffic for you. Now if you don’t wish to see them back, DON’T reply their comment!! Just leave it as it is, and continue writing new blog posting or take your vacation off from your blog, im sure they will say bye bye and never come back

#3 Write a blog describe just about yourself, your new undergarment and your new pet

I’ve seen some blogs where they write it like a diary where its all about what they eat, where they shop, who they bitch about, how much the manicure and pedicure cost them, how pretty is the new toilet bowl and how much comfy the hubby’s ass felt when placed on it…I feel its totally all rite, in fact blog has another name which is like a online diary where you can jot down what ever you feel. And that’s what we call a true personal blog without a niche, or maybe the niche itself is “personal”. Nothing wrong in doing that if you have been doing it since the beginning of your blog journey because your reader know your pattern of writing and when they feel like knowing how interesting your personal life, they might as well just drop by. But if you wanna chase away your readers, you may wanna try this, 1st start with some hot political issues, then with some personal stuff e.g. how many kittens your cat gave birth to then followed by an emo post how your ex boyfriend banged and cheated you, then write a blog and condemn the government and then another post about how to download porn from internet then about man and orgasm….. (gosh, it sounds so like mine) you see, this is where people get confused what the blogger is up to. they cant expect a constant message and adding on top if that, go missing in action for sometime and dont update the blog at all. Well, i would say this is a very healthy practice IF you wanna LOSE your consistent visitors. I do see many blogs like that still kicking and sailing smooth but it just doesnt work well for me because i am a MALE blogger..lolz..

#4.Write a racist statement in your blog

This is definately gonna give you a super hit counter of visitors, trust me!! We had seen too many of this kinda blog posting talking bad about other races and name calling and such. Of course, there will be a price to pay for it, either you get whacked verbally in the blog-o-sphere, police report lodged against you (and this will bring more visitors) and finally your blog will be forced to closed down. This is definately NOT a very good way to close down your blog, so do it when you feel like giving up blogging, but bare in mind that your arse might be on FIRE anytime or you might end up taking RPK’s cell in kamunting detention center and play chess with Lawyer P.Uthayakumar during your lunch break.

#5. Using some ethnic language jargon makes people go like this ????

I do encourage people who wish to blog with their mother tongue e.g. mandarin, tamil or malay language. Its a good thing to do in fact who is gonna nurture your language if not yourself after all. But what I’ve noticed is many blogger including me does include some words or sentence in their own mother tongue either to spice up the posting or perhaps they cant get the right word in English. For an example, I went for this movie Yes Man, it was a SAVADEE movie la!! well, how many of you ( non indians) knows what is savadee means? and if you keep mention some words like KNN a.k.a kan ni nia, TFK a.k.a ta fei kei, readers might feel lost because they might not understand what are you trying to say and its a bad way to let the readers down and they might just feel that the blogger is so indianish or ah bengish or what ever ish and never turn back to your with the impression that they got previously that somehow they are not gonna understand wtf is written so why bother?

So what i suggest is, if ever you wanna make your blog cool with such words, please give a small * at the end of the word and explain it later at the bottom of the post. Assuming all Malaysians or all readers understand tamil or chinese (mandarin, hokkien, canto, hakka, teochew, hainam and the list goes on) or malay is no good. So stop assuming and educate them instead, let us know what is that mean, i mean we all wanna know new language though, come on, don’t be *kedekut ilmu ( selfish in knowledge sharing), hehe.

Disclaimer: This posting was done base on my true story but some of the examples that given are mere creation to make the posting more interesting. If you think that its offensive, well, you noe me, i dont give a fuck. thanks and happy new year

By the way, savadee means something like awesome, KNN is f*ck ur M*m, TFK means hit the airplane a.k.a hand job.

Happy new year too vicky. 🙂

  2. Hello there,

Very interesting post! It’s true. If you stop blogging and updating your blog for a while, you may lose your readers. As a reader myself, I also wouldn’t bother visiting a blog with no new updates. But if the blog is really good, then I’ll still be a faithful visitor. 🙂

Yes, it’s also nice if my comments were replied to. But I don’t really mind if they don’t reply to my comments. I do have better things to do than worry if they had said something in reply to what I’ve said at their blogs. It’d also be nice if they actually came by my blog to say hi or something. 😀

Well, I guess we learn from mistakes, huh?

  3. Aiyoo kawan…jgnla tak update blog so lama….i almost went insane by boredom lar….haiyo haiyo….hehe…Well, i dunno y anyone would want to know how to lose a blog reader but nice to finally see a post…keep it up..

  4. Great Post Dude! Very Well Said… Do like to add..

Writing about your self is not wrong but know what to write. Make it worth it. The secret behind this whole game are to be kind and love the word sharing. Dont be stingy in pointing out others. For example.. I may take up this post of vicky’s and come up with my own version and refer back to his post stating this where I was inspired to write such. Crediting is what this is call. In another point of view, if you run out of ideas, this is a good way to keep constant!

    Cheers!
